Course Description

This course introduces metal arc welding and flux core arc welding processes. Topics include equipment setup and fillet and groove welds with emphasis on application of GMAW and FCAW electrodes on carbon steel plate. Upon completion, students should be able to perform fillet welds on carbon steel with prescribed electrodes in the flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions. Completed in a curriculum environment, this is a parallel course offered with WLD-121.

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Select appropriate welding procedure, equipment, and rods for specific inert gas welding applications.
  • Setup inert gas welding machines using all applicable safety procedures.
  • Perform inert gas welding procedures including electrode selection, amperage adjustments, joint selection, and preparation for specific applications.
  • Perform (MIG) GMAW & FCAW welding in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
  • Identify different types of metals and materials by appropriate methods.
