ELC-3119T1 - Electrical Trade Essentials
Course Description
This course teaches students essential skills to further enhance on-the-job application in the electrical trade. Topics include construction math; blueprint reading and circuits; panelboards and disconnects, basic motor and control wiring, and electrical boxes, conduit and fittings. Troubleshooting is included with the hands-on learning portions of the course. An Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-hour Construction module is included where students will learn various safety and health requirements, and earn an OSHA 10-Hour Construction Outreach DOL course completion card. Additionally, students will learn soft skills essential for on-the-job interactions including communication, work ethics, and public relations.Learner Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Lay out and perform basic bends in EMT.
- Install EMT with appropriate fittings by NEC standards.
- Properly size and install device and junction boxes per NEC standards.
- Properly size, install, and maintain disconnecting switches and panelboards.
- Install and wire basic switching and power branch circuits.
- Install basic motor control equipment including contactors, starters, relays.
- Recognize and identify basic drawing terms, components and symbols.
- Properly size and lay out circuit runs according to blueprints.
- Use basic math calculations, reading and interpreting tables.
- Identify major hazards in a construction work setting.
- Understand and adhere to OSHA standards in construction.
- Apply interpersonal skills that positively affect job performance.
