CAR-3124C2 - Intro to Construction
Course Description
This course covers standard and alternative building methods to include wall framing. Topics include safety and footings, foundations, floor framing systems, and wall framing systems commonly used in the construction industry. Upon completion, students should be able to safely erect all framing necessary to begin roof framing. This course is one of four preparing students to earn a CCCC Building Construction Technology Certificate, and complements other construction trades-related Continuing Education courses. This is a parallel course to CST-111 Intro to Construction and is completed in a curriculum environment.
Learner Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Set up a construction worksite including the safe and effective use of all typical construction tools.
- Demonstrate competency in the use of measuring and mathematical computing tools such as tape measure, speed square and framing square.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the safe use of hand and power tools
- Execute, in actual scale, conventional and high-performance construction techniques required to frame a house.
- Apply critical thinking skills in choosing proper and best construction materials per application as well as the installation of conventional and high-performance construction techniques, solve workflow problems, and navigate the challenges of the construction industry.
- Communicate effectively with peers towards harmonious and productive workflow.
