Course Description

Learn how your online presence impacts your employability and how you can make social media work for you. This virtual course focuses on social media etiquette and professionalism. You will learn about and discuss positive behaviors on various social media sites (i.e. Facebook & Instagram) and strategies to develop an effective LinkedIn account.

Learner Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this courses, participants will be able to:
  • Apply social media etiquette across various social media platforms.
  • Understand and demonstrate positive & appropriate behaviors across various social media platforms.
  • Create a positive & strong personal/professional online presence utilizing professional social media platforms such as LinkedIn.

Notes

Proficiency using Blackboard is a plus, but not mandatory.

Student should have a personal email account and a current resume to access. Instructional material in the form of PDF documents, Blackboard pages, external web links, PowerPoint and video presentations can be accessed through Blackboard.

Student should have a method for saving any coursework such an external USB storage device.

This course is eligible for the state's Human Resources Development Fee Waiver. Completion of the HRD Fee Waiver application is required. Eligibility includes individuals who are unemployed or underemployed, eligible for the Federal Earned Income Tax Credit, and/or earn wages at or below 200% of the current Federal Poverty Guidelines.

Prerequisites

Basic proficiency using a computer including downloading software and Internet navigation skills.

Basic proficiency with creating, saving, and sharing documents utilizing MS Office products including MS Word and PowerPoint.
