Course Description

National Career Readiness Certification (ACT WorkKeys) is designed to help individuals develop skills critical to workplace success. This course helps prepare students to be successful on the ACT WorkKeys assessment, enhancing the cognitive foundational skills required for success in the workplace.

Learner Outcomes

Students will:

  • Learn essential career skills around interviewing and resume writing.
  • Have a completed or updated job-ready resume by the end of the course.
  • Build or enhance employment skills such as computer literacy skills like word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software skills.
  • Build or enhance other employment ready skills including skills in looking and applying for work online.
  • Gain confidence in their computer skills and employment skills.

Notes

This course is eligible for the state's Human Resources Development Fee Waiver. Completion of the HRD Fee Waiver application is required. Eligibility includes individuals who are unemployed or underemployed, eligible for the Federal Earned Income Tax Credit, and/or earn wages at or below 200% of the current Federal Poverty Guidelines.

Cost of NCRC Exam is included in the cost of the course (first attempt only). Students must schedule exam with exam proctor within one week of course completion for exam cost to be covered.

Instructional materials including PDF handouts and resource links (web/video) will be provided by instructor. 

 

Prerequisites

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Basic proficiency using a computer including downloading software and Internet navigation skills, creating, saving, and sharing documents utilizing MS Office products including MS Word and PowerPoint
  • Completed HRD Fee Waiver Application (due at time of registration), unless ineligible based on household income and size    
  • College or personal email account
