Course Description

This course provides employability skills training for unemployed, underemployed and and individuals who received notification of a pending layoff. The curriculum framework must address each of the six core HRD components: 1) assessment of an individual's assets and limitations, 2) development of a positive self-concept, 3) development of employability skills, 4) development of communication skills, 5) development of problem-solving skills, and 6) awareness of the impact of information technology in the workplace.  Instruction can be designed to be self-directed, self-paced, to meet customized needs of individuals or partner agencies.

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of this class, students will:

  • Learn essential career skills including interviewing and resume writing.
  • Complete a job-ready resume.
  • Gain computer literacy employment skills such as word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software skills.
  • Have an understanding of job search skills and be able to complete an employment application.

If you are unemployed, underemployed, or received notification of a pending layoff, you may qualify for a tuition waiver to cover the cost of this class.
