Course Description

This course is designed to prepare the student to become a certified EKG technician and a certified Cardiovascular Monitor technician. Students will learn the anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system, cardiac rhythm interpretation, how to operate both 5 and 12 lead EKG equipment. Upon completion of the class the student will be eligible for the Cardiovascular Monitor Technician Certification Examination through the American Board of Cardiovascular Medicine (ABCM).

Learner Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:

  • Effective operate a 5 lead and a 12 lead EKG machine.
  • Understand the anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system.
  • Interpret basic cardiac rhythms and their effects on the cardiovascular system.

Notes

A textbook is required. 

Prerequisites

A high school diploma or equivalency is required.
