Course Description

This course provides a general knowledge of the operation of wastewater treatment systems. In addition to related laws and regulations, students will learn about the equipment used in plants, and lab and sampling procedures. This course prepares students for the NC Water Pollution Control System Operators Certification Commission Examination.

Learner Outcomes

At the end of the course students will be:

  • Prepared to demonstrate understanding of the laws, rules & regulations required by the NC Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) and the Division of Water Resources (DWR).
  • Knowledgeable in the practices of NCDEQ and DWR to include collections systems, pumps, preliminary treatments, lagoons and ponds, and health/safety.
  • Eligible to advance and register for the Wastewater Operator II course.
