SEF-DEND1 - Dental Hygienist-Anesthesia
Course Description
This course is designed to provide today's dental hygienist with the knowledge in all aspects of the dental hygiene profession including providing local anesthesia administration to provide comfort to the dental patient. This course provides the participant with the knowledge, mechanics, and skill set to create a comfortable efficient, and positive patient interaction through pain and anxiety management.Learner Outcomes
The goals of this class are to assist the dental hygienist to become:
- Knowledgeable in the use and administration of local anesthetics.
- Knowledgeable in the pharmacology, neurophysiology, neurochemistry and anatomy related to the administration of local anesthetics.
- Knowledgeable and competent in the physical and psychological evaluation of the patient prior to receiving local anesthetic or dental treatment.
- Knowledgeable in the side effects, complications and the management of those problems associated with local anesthetics.

Registration Requirements (Due at Time of Enrollment to Course)
- Copy of current NC Dental Hygienist License
- Copy of current CPR/BLS card (American Heart Association Provider)
- Copy of current OSHA and HIPAA training Certificate
- Complete Medical Questionnaire and Health History Form (All participants are expected to practice as both patient and an operator.)
- Copy of Local Anesthetic Participant Consent
- Copy of Hep B Verifications (Titers are acceptable.)
