Course Description

This course provides a general knowledge of the operation of wastewater treatment systems. Students will learn about general mechanical and maintenance requirements, activated sludge, solids disposal, and lab procedures. This course prepares students for the NC Water Pollution Control System Operators Certification Commission Examination.

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be:

  • Prepared to demonstrate understanding of various treatments, laws and regulations by the NC Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) and the Division of Water Resources (DWR) to serve as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade 3.
  • Knowledgeable in the practices of NCDEQ and DWR to include disinfection and disposal of sludge, sampling, industrial pretreatment, health and safety, public relations and wastewater plant security.
  • Eligible to set for the NCDEQ examination.

Prerequisites

Students must have successfully completed Wastewater Operator II, WAT-3100W3 and have a working knowledge of algebra and geometry.
