Course Description

This course allows students who speak Spanish fluently to begin working towards a certificate in Cosmetology. Instruction will focus on fundamental theoretical concepts of cosmetology with hands-on experience performed. Students will work towards meeting graduation requirements to become eligible to take the NC State Board of Cosmetic Examiners Cosmetology license exam.

Learner Outcomes

Upon the completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • List the steps for first aid and infection control procedures.
  • Define bacteriology.
  • Identify anatomical reference points 
  • Exhibit professional ethics.
  • Define diseases and disorders commonly encountered during a consultation.
  • Define product knowledge.
  • Demonstrate scalp treatments, shampooing and rinsing.
  • Demonstrate basic chemical procedures
  • Demonstrate basic haircutting skills.
  • Demonstrate basic design and pressing procedures.
  • Demonstrate basic cosmetology salon services. evaluation plans.

Notes

  • An orientation session is required for this course, in addition to placement testing.
  • Deferred payment is available for this course, including payment for tuition, textbooks, and a cosmetology kit.
  • The Cosmetology I course is a seated, 16-week course.
  • Students will be required to be in uniform and prepared for class each day with textbooks and kits.
  • Verification of Identification is required.
  • Program Site: Harnett Main Campus
  • This is part one of a five-part series of courses to be eligible to be able to graduate from the Cosmetic Arts program.
