Course Description

This course allows students to continue working towards a certificate in Barbering. Instruction will focus on fundamental and more comprehensive theoretical concepts of barbering with hands-on experience. This is a parallel course to the curriculum BAR113 and BAR 114 courses and is completed in a curriculum environment. Students will work towards meeting graduation requirements to become eligible to take the NC Board of Barber Examiners licensing exam. 

Learner Outcomes

Upon the completion of this course, students will be able to:
  • Explain comprehensive safety procedures.
  • List sanitizing procedures for implements and equipment.
  • Identify products and explain product usage.
  • Demonstrate wet hairstyling.
  • Demonstrate thermal hairstyling. 
  • Demonstrate safe work practices.
  • Apply safety and sanitation concepts in the shop setting.
  • Apply product knowledge concepts in the shop setting. 
  • Demonstrate draping.
  • Demonstrate shampooing.
  • Demonstrate haircutting.
  • Demonstrate hair drying.
  • Demonstrate chemical processing.
  • Demonstrate safe work practices.
  • Safely and competently apply draping and shampooing concepts in the shop setting.
  • Safely and competently apply hair cutting, hair drying, and chemical processing concepts in the shop setting.

Notes

  • To be eligible for this course, students must have successfully completed Barbering I.
  • The Barbering II course is a seated, 16-week course.
  • Students will be required to be in uniform and prepared for class each day with textbooks and kit.
  • Program Site: The Dunn Center
  • This is part two of a five-part series of courses to be eligible to be able to graduate from the Barbering program
