BAR-3100C1 - Barbering I

Course Description

This course allows students to begin working towards a certificate in Barbering. Instruction will focus on basic competency-based knowledge, scientific/artistic principles, and hands-on fundamentals associated with the barbering industry. This is a parallel course to the curriculum BAR 111 and BAR 112 (Barbering) courses and is completed in a curriculum environment. Students will work towards meeting graduation requirements to become eligible to take the NC Board of Barber Examiners licensing exam.

Learner Outcomes

Upon the completion of this course, students will be able to:

List the steps involved in sanitizing equipment.

Determine treatments for skin disorders.
Identify hair disorders and treatments.
Determine treatments for scalp disorders.
Demonstrate safe work practices.
Perform basic clinic services.
Demonstrate sanitizing procedures for implements and equipment.
Conduct a client consultation.
Demonstrate a hair and scalp analysis.
Determine hair texture.
Demonstrate haircutting procedures.
Demonstrate hair processing procedures.
Safely and competently demonstrate shop services.

Notes

To be eligible for this course, students must attend an orientation session and provide verification of identification.
Student permits in the amount of $25 are required prior to enrollment. Students may apply and pay for the student permit online during orientation.
Deferred payment is available for this course, including payment for tuition, textbooks, and a barbering kit.
The Barbering I course is a seated, 16-week course.
Students will be required to be in uniform and prepared for class each day with textbooks and kit.
